For an architect, a brief from a client that includes a wish to have a swimming pool ‘in’ his apartment, must be one of the strangest to receive. Such a request was given to Fernanda Marquest Arquitetos Associados for a duplex in São Paulo Brazil and the architects delivered in what can only be described as a work of art.

The swimming pool although technically ‘outside’ the apartment is clearly the feature of the living room with two large glass panels enclosing the body of water and displaying it the length of the living room wall. A double sided couch splits the room in two, one half looks towards the glowing turquoise water, the other towards the wall mounted television.

Accessible from the living room and directly from the master bed, the pool ‘art’ truly complements the rest of the home with the clients robust art collection placed thoughtfully throughout the otherwise minimally decorated space. The perfect crowning glory to the duplex is the vertical garden that encases the courtyard providing a lush oasis. What a choice to pick between these spaces in which to spend your days. It’s hard to pick a favourite.
